On 17 January, ten Year 8 students from Attleborough were given the opportunity to visit Cambridge University and experience what it would be like to learn languages there. They were welcomed to the University by the Head of the Languages Centre and were challenged to work out some key statistics about languages and who speaks them. They were surprised to learn that three quarters of the world’s population use at least two languages in their everyday lives and that 75 % of the world’s population cannot speak any English. The students were given a talk about other advantages and reasons for learning languages.
The day provided the students with an excellent insight into what life is like at University, furthered their knowledge of German and taught them some cool new languages! Everyone agreed it had been a brilliant day.
